Welcome Andrey

James Fryett Architect Inc. has welcomed a new team member, Andrey Gabtraupov, in the role of Intermediate Technologist.

Andrey holds a Bachelor of Architecture form L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana, Kazakhstan.  He comes to us after 12 years of experience working in Kazakhstan and Winnipeg.

New Project: Beeton Recreation Facility Replacement Project

James Fryett Architect Inc. is pleased to have been chosen by the Town of New Tecumseth to complete the first phase of the Beeton Recreation Facility Replacement Project.  Work includes updates to our previously completed feasibility study and concept plans.  In addition, extensive research and public consultation will be undertaken to inform potential design options and allow the creation of a business plan for the new facility.  James Fryett Architect Inc. has partnered with Leisureplan International Inc. on this project for their expertise in research, public consultation and business planning for recreational facilities.  We are excited to continue our work towards a new recreation facility for Beeton.

Wilson St. Parkade Ground Breaking

Architect Robert Turner and Junior Technologist Justin Crawford donned their hard hats and steel toe boots to join Newton Group Ltd and the City of Guelph at the ground-breaking ceremony for the long awaited Wilson Street parking garage.

Excavation crews are now on site to commence construction of the 6 storey, 496 space parkade at Wilson Street and Northumberland Street in Downtown Guelph. The new parking structure will provide much needed vehicle parking for the downtown core and will also feature bicycle parking and electric vehicle charging stations. The facility will be fully Accessible, to the City’s exacting standards for public buildings.

The building utilizes Newton Groups’ lightweight, prefabricated ‘Canadacar’ parking structure system, but with a more traditional brick facade.  Completion of the project is expected at the end of Summer 2019. Notice of Tender: 71 Metcalf St.

71 Metcalf Street in Woodstock, ON has opened for tender. Operating as Construction Manager for the project is Sierra Construction Group. Interested parties should direct all inquiries to the Construction Manager.

The property will provide 18 spacious two bedroom apartments from 900 to 1050 square feet, covered parking, tenant storage space and a rooftop amenity area. The facade will be finished with high-quality stone and masonry materials with large windows and Juliet balconies providing ample natural light to the suites.

Construction is expected to start in the Spring of 2018.

Watch Out!!

Decked out in plaid or holiday sweaters the energetic folk of James Fryett Architect Inc. and their guests broke every rule their mothers ever told them about sharp objects and spent an evening throwing axes at BATL in Kitchener.  The drinks and food at this untraditional holiday party moved almost as swiftly as the flying axes.  To the delight of Architect Brian McCulloch a round robin tournament led to the crowning of Julia McCulloch as axe champion.

Occupancy at 190 Century Hill Drive

The first of 3 multi-unit townhomes to be developed by Crescent Haven Homes and constructed by Aberdeen Homes is ready to be occupied at 190 Century Hill Drive in Kitchener, ON.

Located at the north-west corner of Bleams Road and Century Hill Drive, the townhomes are of a welcome contemporary design featuring modern use of masonry and siding materials. This building contains 12 residential units offering 1 Bedroom, 2 Bedroom and 2 Bedroom + Loft unit types.  Design of the units emphasizes ample natural lighting, juliet balconies, roof top patios. Construction on the Second and Third blocks in the development is well under way and the completed scheme will provide 39 apartments in total.

361 Lancaster Street Completed

James Fryett Architect Inc. is pleased to announce that second and final multi-unit townhome building is now ready for occupancy at 361 Lancaster St. in Kitchener, ON. The completed site development has 20 stacked townhouses in two blocks – 16 units in Block A and 12 in Block B.  There is a mix of 1 Bedroom, 2 Bedroom and 2 Bedroom + Den unit types varying from 820 to 1100 square feet. The two contemporary-styled buildings increase the urban density of the area, in line with Kitchener’s current policy.

Grand Re-opening: Fergus Grand Theatre Restoration

Carolyn Bilson and Hadil El-Baba were pleased to attend the grand re-opening of the Fergus Grand Theatre.  Speeches by Centre Wellington Councillor Mary Lloyd and theatre coordinator Eric Goudie started off the night.  The Great Canadian Song Book, an energetic performance featuring songs from Canada’s musical history, capped off the celebration.

Since 1928 the Fergus Grand Theatre has been a part of the Centre Wellington community.  The building received an Ontario 150 grant for restoration of the historic facade and improvements to accessibility for patrons.  Restoration work included recreation of the original building facade and refinishing of the historically designated tin ceilings.   Accessibility improvements included barrier free access to the main entrance and main floor washrooms.  James Fryett Architect Inc. was pleased to work with the Township of Centre Wellington on this culturally significant project.
